I surprisingly scored a copy of the second Fatal Fury comp for the PS2, yay. I was saddened by the lack of Duck on the cover. Of course SNK's Chuck Norris Terry HoBogard is prominant on said cover, it really being his story and all. Thinking about SNK at work last night brought to mind that nearly all the SNK heroes are blonds. Terry from Fatal Fury, Ryo from Art Of Fighting, and even Kaede from Last Blade.

You know what that means.

On an unrelated note, Ouen-Failure Chabudai-Gaeshi has updated after about a month of no new posts, so there is more art to make me squee. There's a few there of Foxx and Missy that make me happy, one of J with Spin and Tanaka that pleases me to no end, and one of Morris that makes me LOL hard. MO FO SHO'

Remember a post I made some time ago about the game luminous_manic was working on, Banzai Pecan?

The game apparently coming along quite well, and he just finished the "arcade flyer" art (which would make for kick-ass box art as well, IMO). This is going to be friggin' epic.

He's also still looking for a voice for Sister Spearmint and a character named Karate Soy. Drop him a line if you're interested. :D

So, I'm sitting farting around online and Johnny Ovaltine is playing EBA; between the two of us we've been playing it and trying to top old records and get the final rank for bragging purposes. And I don't know what made me think of it but I said...

Me: Hey, I have a question. All the Agents have numbers assigned to them right? You know, Chief is BA-1, etc etc.

Johnny: Yeah?

Me: So Derek and Morris are BA-3 and BA-4. But the number can't be related to rank or skill, because they're able to back up everyone, right? And I don't think it's just a "when they got joined the Agency" thing. That'd just be lame. So what the hell do the numbers mean?

Johnny: Easy. Kahn assigns the numbers according to which Agents he bones the most.

Me: ...What?

Johnny: Obviously Chieftain is first, then J and so on.

Me: Dude. XD

I've warped him with the slash.

Also by that reckoning Spin still isn't getting enough love.

I've been thinking about comics and whatnot in general over the last day or two, specifically about the fact that there is very yuri little available for people to read as opposed to the reams of yaoi being dumped here. Don't get me wrong, I likes my mansex, but what about the ladies? But thinking about it some more, I realized that I'm not sure I'd read it anyway. After all, I don't read the yaoi manga available either. Seriously, I will gladly and gleefully slash couples, male and female, from whatever I'm reading, playing etc, but if the series is intentionally yaoi/yuri centered. I don't care for it. Probably for the same reason I don't care for het romance; it bores the crap out of me when ROMANCE is the focal point. I much prefer a story to have other things driving it, and I'll be quite happy to find my own subtext, thank you.

Then I thought about Love And Rockets, specifically Xaime's stories, and had to think that over in contrast. But I still hold by my opinion. Yes, Maggie and Hopey were together through much of the story line (I'm bad, I haven't picked up anything else after LAR #50), but IMO their romantic relationship wasn't the focus so much as their history, their actual friendship, and how they interacted with the people around them. Everyday, day to day life. So when there were the fluffy moments when they were doing the couple thing it seemed more realistic and less contrived.

...If that makes any sense.

Picking up my first issue of LAR back in 1990, I don't remember the exact number (31 maybe?) but I remember the cover! Teen punk divas Maggot and Hopita in their plaid skirts and ripped black tights casually walking past a line of cops in riot gear. Inside was a flashback of them all at an Ape Sex gig gone wrong, and Hopey, Maggie and their friend Mary belting out X-Ray Spex; even now, whenever I hear "I Can't Do Anything", all I can think of is that image. I was completely and utterly hooked. Of course I had to hunt down the collected volumes, and read them to death. I cried real tears when Maggie blew up and cussed out Speedy. I understood Doyle completely with his anger issues. I actually felt real sympathy for Terry and understood why she was as bitchy as she was. I seriously loved these characters. And the flashbacks made them all the richer, giving insight.

A few weeks ago, Georgia pointed out that I tend to write a lot of flashbacks. And I do, really. Thinking about LAR today reminded me of that (ZOMG FLASHBACK HELL) and it's obvious to me now that I was really influenced by Xaime's storytelling, not just his art.

And his art. God, the black and white and balance and feel and SQUEEEEEEEEE... And Maggie got fat! And was still fucking adorable and sexy! And she had a girlfriend who loved her no matter how big she got! From what I understand, guys were always writing to Xaime and whining about when would Maggie be skinny again, and he'd respond, "Never." Maggie, honestly, made me feel it wasn't the end of the world to be a fat chick.

...I've been at this for about an hour now, and I still haven't quite said what I meant to so I'll end it here.

I will however point out that I think I'm so enamored of J from EBA is because he reminds me of Doyle. X3

X3 And maybe this is just me being a flaming fujoshi, but basically it looks like the Blue Team was created to be shipped with the Red Team. That is all I have to say about it without scaring most of my FL, I'm sure.
